Port is the souvenir Porto is trying to sell you at every doorway. The useful version is one lodge tasting in Gaia (Graham’s, Taylor’s, or similar), booked, 90 minutes.
Not worth it: stacked cellar stamps, “unlimited port” six-bridges packages, and any tasting that starts with a sales pitch before you see wood.
If you already drink vintage port, book the vintage flight, not the tourist three-pour.
Eat first or after — not during. Pair with the food tour shortlist on another night, and keep the Douro as landscape plus still wine, not a third port lecture.

One proper Gaia lodge, yes. You see the barrels, you taste with context, you walk back across the bridge. A Ribeira 'cellar' on the quay is usually a shop with stools.
Vila Nova de Gaia. That is where the lodges actually aged the wine. Ribeira has views and tourist pours. Combine Gaia with the lower deck of Dom Luís I, not with two more tastings.
