Cairo is not a pyramid with a city attached. The pyramids are on the edge. The city is the medieval streets, the museums, the Nile as a working river, and traffic that will humble you.

Pay for a licensed guide at Giza because the plateau is chaotic, not because the stones need a mystic. Pay for Saqqara because it is the better archaeology per crowd.

Where to spend your money

Book: Giza with a guide, museum tickets for the right building, Citadel/Islamic Cairo, a felucca.

Skip: dinner-show Nile boats, Luxor as a day trip, and extra camel packages.

The part nobody tells you

The "sound and light show" at Giza is optional kitsch. The stones at 8am are the show. If you only have one Giza visit, spend it in daylight and leave.

How many days in Cairo?

Three. Giza, a museum, Islamic Cairo. Four with Saqqara. Luxor is another trip.

Touts and haggling?

Persistent at Giza and in Khan. A firm no, a licensed guide, and pre-paid tickets reduce it. You do not owe a horse ride. Baksheesh for actual service is a separate, smaller thing.

Uber?

Works and is the default over street taxis for most visitors. Airport is still a process — official taxis or ride apps as available.

Ramadan?

Daytime eating is restricted in many places, nights are lively. Pyramids still run. Check museum hours.

Is Cairo safe?

Millions of people live a normal life. Petty hassle of tourists is the main friction, not random violence in central areas. Usual big-city bag awareness. Follow current travel advice for your nationality.
