Buenos Aires wants a late schedule and a neighbourhood loyalty. Palermo is easy. San Telmo has the better Sunday. Recoleta has the stone. La Boca has one famous block.

Tango is both a global export show and a local social dance. You can buy the first. You have to stay up for the second.

Where to spend your money

Book: Colon tour or a show, a food crawl, Recoleta, football only with logistics included.

Skip: unstructured La Boca walks, Iguazu as a sidecar, and four steak houses in a row.

The part nobody tells you

The "world's best steak" competition will try to own your evenings. A good parrilla is worth one night. The city's Italian-Argentine everyday food is the rest. Empanadas for lunch are not a cop-out.

How many days in Buenos Aires?

Four. Neighbourhoods take time because the city is wide. Two days is Recoleta, a show and a steak, which is a postcard not a visit.

Money?

Rules around dollars, pesos and cards have changed often. Use official rates and cards where accepted, and ask your hotel the current practical advice. Street cueva deals are not a travel tip to gamble on.

Safety?

Petty theft in tourist areas, distraction tricks. Use radio taxis or Uber. La Boca: Caminito and the stadium area with a plan, not a random wander at dusk.

Late hours?

Dinner at 21:30 is normal. Clubs later. Breakfast is not the city's art form. Adjust or be hungry at 6pm in an empty restaurant.

Iguazu from here?

A flight, not a day trip. Do not add it as a 20-hour fantasy.
